Uzbekistan – Egypt political consultations were held

On September 16, 2019, Cairo hosted the 9th round of Uzbekistan – Egypt inter-MFA political consultations.

The delegations of the parties were led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Dilshod Akhatov and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt Hany Selim.

The parties discussed in detail the current state and prospects of expanding cooperation in political, trade, economic, investment, cultural, humanitarian and other fields, exchanged views on regional and international issues.

The parties noted that fruitful summit negotiations between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil el-Sisi on September 4-5, 2018 in Tashkent brought bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level.

The parties expressed interest in participation of Egypt in the events marking the announcement of Bukhara as the Capital of Islamic Culture in 2020.

The parties praised the establishment of partnership between Egyptian scientific institutions and Imam Bukhari International Research Centre in Samarkand and the Center for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent. At the meeting, the parties supported the proposal to expand cooperation between the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan and the Book House and the Archival Institution under the Ministry of Culture of Egypt, which will allow joint study of rare manuscripts stored in scientific institutions of the two countries.
