The Republic of Uzbekistan is a full member since 1992. On July 2, 1992 the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On membership of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the International Monetary Fund, International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Development Association, International Financial Corporation, Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency" was implemented.

Uzbekistan is a part of Swiss group of country-members of the World Bank. The representative office of the World Bank is operating in Tashkent since September 1992 and headed by Junghun Сho (Republic of Korea) since December 1, 2014.

On December 6, 2011 the Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank approved the Bank’s Country Partnership Strategy for the Republic of Uzbekistan for the period 2012-2015. The strategy provides the financing of projects on the base of concessional loans by the International Development Association (IDA) as well as the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) in total amount of $1,35 million in the following areas:

- Modernization and reconstruction of the energy system;

- Reconstruction and rehabilitation of irrigation and drainage networks;

- Improvement of the infrastructure of utilities;

- The development of networks and equipment of medical institutions.

As part of this strategy it is also planned joint development of the strategic document "Concept of structural transformation of the economy of Uzbekistan 2030" with research institutions of Uzbekistan, aims to identify priority sectors and activities for the development of the economy and other analytical and advisory activity.

In addition to the projects financed by IBRD and IDA, the Bank provides its own grant funds for some individual projects.

In 2015, World Bank in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan is implementing 14 projects for more than $1,6 billion.
