President Meets with US Deputy Secretary of State

12.06.2012 20:22

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met with the United States Deputy Secretary of State William Burns at the Oqsaroy June 12.

Greeting the guest, Islam Karimov conveyed satisfaction with the growing dynamics and steady consolidation of multilayered bilateral partnership.

In his turn, William Burns expressed gratitude for a warm reception and confirmed the US leadership’s interest in the further enhancement of political, economic and humanitarian ties with Uzbekistan.

The current state and prospects of cooperation, along with the most pressing issues in bilateral relations have been addressed during the circumstantial discussion at the Oqsaroy.

It was noted in particular that for the past twenty years since Uzbekistan and the United States instituted diplomatic relations, the two sides have garnered a considerable resource for a constructive interaction. Joint efforts have produced a comprehensive bilateral agenda conducive to boosting the mutually advantageous cooperation.

The all-embracing nature of the relations has been facilitated by regular contacts between the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the US State Department, by the expanding inter-parliamentary bonds, the multifaceted dialogue among government agencies and civil societies of our two countries.

Notably, 240 enterprises with American capital are currently operating in Uzbekistan, while 48 leading US companies have representative offices accredited in our country. It has been said during the talks that, building on the accumulated positive experience of prolific activity by a range of advanced American corporations in the Uzbek market, the two sides are willing to shore up the trade-economic and investment cooperation and assist in the implementation of joint hi-tech projects.

Regional and international issues, stabilization efforts in Afghanistan as well as other topics of shared interest have been deliberated during the conversation at the Oqsaroy.
