Meeting at the Oqsaroy

23.07.2012 21:11

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Oqsaroy July 23 met with David Constable, Chief Executive Officer of the South Africa's Sasol energy and chemical group of companies.

The progress being made within a project to launch GTL (gas-to-liquid) production in Uzbekistan’s Kashkadarya region has been discussed during the meeting. The scheme envisions a 38,000 barrel-a-day (1.5 million tons per year) production of synthetic liquid fuels from natural gas, and is run by Uzbekneftegaz national holding company, Sasol and Malaysia’s Petronas.

Greeting the guest, the head of our state noted that the cooperation with Sasol in the implementation of this project is highly esteemed in Uzbekistan. Unique to Eurasia, the plant is to boast state-of-the-art innovation technologies to produce goods with higher added value by deep reprocessing of the rich gas resources available in our country.

President Islam Karimov expressed his support for a successful execution of the GTL project; he underscored the significance of the venture for boosting Uzbekistan’s power sector and for demonstration of our nation’s capacities in the application of cutting-edge technologies.

The Sasol CEO conveyed sincere gratitude to the leader of Uzbekistan for a warm welcome and the support for the joint project. David Constable assured that the company has been making every effort to secure an effective implementation of the scheme, a pivotal plot in Sasol’s portfolio of projects.

Within the framework of his visit to Uzbekistan, the chief executive oversaw the brand’s official presentation ceremony whereby the project being run by a joint venture has been entitled “Oltin Yo’l GTL”. Another ceremonial event has taken place to mark the commencement of external infrastructure facilities within the plant site.
