The business forum dedicated to the prospects of textile industry of Uzbekistan was held in Tashkent. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan alongside the support of Business Forum of Uzbekistan Project organized the event.

The representatives of several ministries and agencies, textile enterprises and companies took part in it, the report by Uzbekistan National News Agency Russian-language website has said.

Alisher Shaikhov, the Chairman of Chamber, has said that the ongoing reforms in the country’s textile industry bear their positive results. The Resolution of President “On the program of modernization and technical reequipment of enterprises of textile industry for 2006-2008” serves as an important program document in this direction.

Last year the exports of textile products rose for 1,2 times. 34 enterprises from 66 which are part of the program of development, modernization, technical and technological re-equipment are manufacturing the finished products. The construction works and supply of equipment are being completed at other 20 companies. For over rather short period of time the volume of production in modernized companies has increased by 1,5 fold.

According to the delegates of the forum the Uzbek cotton is gaining yet more popularity year by year. Thanks to its length and strength the Uzbek cotton fully meets the international requirements. The capacity of the local textile companies allows to process annually 350 000 tons of cotton fiber, produce 300 000 tons of yarns, 195 million of linear meters of cotton fabric, and 160 million pairs of knitwear.

Also, at the forum the participants spoke on the last achievements of textile industry in Uzbekistan, reorganization and renewal, priority directions of attracting the investments to the sphere, conditions and advantages provided for the foreign investors.
